Demigods

I don't like the idea of making our players into demigods, because I liked the idea of them just being explorers of Greek mythology, and if they're just human it also explains why they need Athena's help to bring back their loved one, etc. Is there any way to give the characters a special ability without heightening them to a demigod status? Or are there any other ideas on how to make them less 'generic'?

Anyway, that's just me, what does everyone else think of the demigod thing?
